I am a trauma-informed therapist with extensive experience providing trauma therapy to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of relational trauma.
Throughout my career, I have spent more than five years working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in nonprofit and university settings. Through this work, I have supported clients navigating PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, and the lasting effects of difficult life experiences. These experiences deepened my understanding of how trauma can shape the way we relate to ourselves, our emotions, and the people around us.
Today, I specialize in working with young adults struggling with anxiety, overthinking, people-pleasing, relationship challenges, PTSD, and the lingering effects of trauma.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), two evidence-based treatments for PTSD and trauma-related concerns. I also integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, somatic approaches, and attachment-focused interventions into my work.
While my approach is grounded in research and evidence-based practices, I believe therapy should never feel one-size-fits-all. Together, we'll find an approach that fits your goals, values, and unique experiences.
Hi, I'm Maya.
When people ask why I became a therapist, I sometimes joke that it's because I'm nosy. The truth is, I've always been fascinated by people—the stories we carry, the ways we adapt, and what helps us heal.
One of the things I love most about this work is witnessing how resilient people are. I'm constantly amazed by what people survive and the ways they find a path forward, even when life has been painful, overwhelming, or unfair. To find connection, joy, and meaning in the world we live in is something I never take for granted.
I believe that healing happens in relationships. My hope is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and less alone as we work together toward the life you want for yourself.
My style is thoughtful, practical, validating, and curious. I want therapy to be a place where you can explore difficult experiences honestly, while also building concrete tools and creating meaningful change in your daily life.

What It’s Like Working With Me
Clients often describe me as gentle, thoughtful, validating, and practical.
I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe enough to be honest about what you're experiencing, while also feeling supported in making meaningful changes in your life. My approach is collaborative and curious. I'll often ask questions that help you explore patterns, gain insight, and connect with parts of your experience that may have been difficult to access before.
At the same time, I don't believe therapy is only about talking. Understanding why something happens is important, but insight alone doesn't always create change. Together, we'll focus on building practical skills, experimenting with new ways of responding, and finding tools that support you outside of session.
Depending on your goals and the approaches we're using, this may include coping strategies, reflection exercises, activities to try between sessions, or structured tools and worksheets. My goal is for therapy to feel meaningful not only during our sessions, but in your everyday life as well.
While we may explore difficult experiences, I strive to bring warmth, compassion, and occasionally a little humor into the therapy room. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can show up authentically, feel genuinely understood, and leave with something useful to carry forward.
The lens I bring to this work.
I believe that our identities, relationships, communities, and lived experiences shape how we move through the world. While no therapist can fully understand every aspect of another person's experience, I believe it is important to acknowledge the perspectives we each bring into the room.
-
As a queer therapist, I understand firsthand the value of having spaces where you can show up authentically and be met with respect, curiosity, and care. This perspective informs my commitment to providing affirming therapy for LGBTQIA+ clients and creating a practice that welcomes people of diverse identities, backgrounds, and relationship structures.
-
I also approach therapy through a social justice-informed lens. While therapy can help us better understand ourselves and create meaningful change, many of our struggles do not exist solely within us. Our mental health is shaped by the relationships, communities, systems, and cultural messages that surround us. When relevant, I believe it is important to acknowledge and explore these influences with compassion and curiosity rather than viewing challenges solely as individual shortcomings.
-
I also recognize that factors such as culture, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, family values, and community can influence how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and our mental health. Rather than making assumptions, I strive to approach these conversations with curiosity, humility, and a genuine desire to understand your unique experience.
At the heart of my work is a belief that every person deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to be fully themselves. I approach each client with humility and openness, recognizing that you are the expert on your own experience and that therapy works best when we collaborate together.
Telehealth Therapy in Montana and Texas
The places that shape us often become part of how we move through the world.
I grew up in Whitefish, Montana, where I developed a deep appreciation for community, connection, and the restorative power of spending time outdoors. Some of my favorite memories involve swimming in Whitefish Lake, hiking in Glacier National Park, and spending time with the people who make Montana feel like home. Those experiences continue to influence the way I approach both life and therapy today.
I also spent eight years living in Austin, Texas, where I built meaningful relationships, established my career, and grew into the person and therapist I am today. Having roots in both Montana and Texas allows me to connect with clients from a variety of backgrounds, communities, and ways of life.
I provide virtual therapy for adults throughout Montana and Texas. Whether you're navigating life in a small town, a growing city, or somewhere in between, my goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered to move toward what matters most.
I periodically offer walk-and-talk therapy sessions in Whitefish and Austin for clients who enjoy incorporating movement and nature into the therapeutic process.
